My name is Michael Jones,
In January of 2003, a woman was abducted at knifepoint and sexually assaulted by her assailant while being forced to drive to different ATMs and withdraw money.
She was then driven to a motel in Detroit where she was raped. Then a couple of days later she wrote the story in her own words, stating, in the end, she never saw the man’s face. She then gave different stories to detectives, and other police officers, in multiple different interviews.
The lead Detective Terry Cashman claimed he had a motel registration card with my name on it at the district court hearing to get the case bound over to circuit court, claiming he had the card but turned it over to the crime lab and would get it later.
Well, several months later it was discovered that the card was “lost” on the night of the crime. Leaving me with no chance to perform fingerprint, handwriting, or DNA testing on that key piece of evidence.
This is one of many lies told throughout my case.
The Affidavit to obtain the search warrant was filled with false statements to obtain a warrant to search my wife's van, where a so-called hair of the victim was found. When requested to see the Hair so it could be tested for DNA by the defense, they replied that it was “all used up”.
Some other evidence was shown to the Jury that was not objected to by my ineffective trial counsel. The state introduced photos of Boot prints found at the scene of the crime, the prosecutor then showed the jury photos of the boot prints I was wearing when I turned myself in. In comparison, my boot print patterns were not even close to the crime scene boot print patterns.
I supplied an alibi, but the Prosecutor continued attacking my brother’s credibility by bringing up an old drunk driving charge that has absolutely nothing to do with a witness’s credibility.
They had nothing connecting me to this crime except the identification in court. The victim, in this case, said she never saw the man’s face, only after being coached by Detective Cashman did she begin to say every other minute, that she saw him everywhere during the attack.
I hope someone can help me because my case is full of false statements and lies to get a conviction, not to convict the actual perpetrator of this awful crime!!
