My name is Anthony Bradley. I was charged with First Degree Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, and Felony Firearm. My wrongful conviction stems from a marijuana deal, in which me and my friend Antonio Cox, both got robbed and shot in. The crime against us occurred on the street in the city of Westland MI during the summer of 2000. After the robbery and shooting I fled the scene in fear of my life. While I fled, Antonio was shot during the struggle with the gunman over the gun, and died shortly after.
I was on parole when this happened. I had been out of prison for 9 months and was working two jobs, but I sold marijuana on the side after work to supplement my income. Once I fled to safety I went home and told my girlfriend, her roommate, and a few other people that Antonio and I had just got robbed and shot for our weed. I did not call the police because I was on parole and could not have police contact which would have violated my parole for being shot in the middle of a drug deal, and out past my curfew.
Eventually my name and parole status came up days later and I became the polices’ number one focus. The police found no eyewitnesses, and had very little to go on so members of the Westland Police and The Metro Street Enforcement Team began creating false evidence to set me up.
The three main witnesses against me were Quiana McKay, Anthony Carr (Jail House Informant), and Keith Jones. Quiana Mckay was illegally arrested and held for 24 hours until she wrote out a false statement. She was also forced to lie and name another person as my co-defendant Derico Thompson as the alleged shooter. All three witnesses were forced, threatened, or encouraged to lie on me, and all three have since recanted their trial testimony which has given me additional new evidence.
The police also planted a cell phone in the car I was driving and committed perjury saying they received phone records from Sprint indicating that the cell phone in evidence was assigned to the cell phone number that called the other victim the day of the incident. I have cell phone records, call logs and an affidavit from the true owner of the cell phone number in question.
There were also Brady Violations found, after Legal Access Plus helped me obtain my police file, and I discovered important documents that were withheld from me.
At my first trial in May of 2001, I received a hung jury and my co-defendant was found not guilty of Felony Murder. On the 4th day of my second trial, September 10th 2001, there was a bomb threat made, and the courthouse was evacuated. The next day, Sept. 11th, 2001 the terrorist attacks occurred and the courthouse was again evacuated and the jury was sent home. However on September 12th the jury was forced to come back and the judge refused to give us a mistrial.
Then on the last day of trial, September 14th, during the jury instructions the Judge asked the jurors and the courtroom for a moment of silence for the victims of 9/11. Then she sent the jury into deliberations. The jury quickly found me guilty and left out of the courthouse which had been under heightened security.
Furthermore, at my 1st trial the jury was provided with and instructed on the correct verdict form of First Degree Felony Murder and there was a hung jury. However in my 2nd trial the jury was provided and instructed on the wrong verdict form, which they followed, and found me guilty of First Degree Murder. This was a crime I was never charged with. Also Trial Court Documents show the clerk recorded that I was convicted of First Degree Murder 750.316 (A). However, at sentencing, a Judgment of Sentence was entered in for First Degree Felony Murder, 750.316 (B). I was also sentenced to Life without Parole, for First Degree Felony Murder, 750.316(B) a crime the jury never found me guilty of.
Nevertheless I'm 100% innocent of this crime. At every stage since my arrest I've been lied on. I need a dedicated Attorney who is willing to take on my case pro bono in order to bring out the truth and expose the lies.
